What this tool does

Enter entry, exit, quantity, direction, and fees. The tool returns gross P/L, fees, net P/L, percentage return, and optionally the impact on a stated account balance.

How to use this tool

  1. Pick long or short.
  2. Enter entry price, exit price, and quantity.
  3. Add fees or commission if relevant.
  4. Optionally enter your account balance to see the percentage impact.
  5. Read gross P/L, net P/L, and the percentage return.

Formula

Long Gross P/L = (Exit − Entry) × Quantity
Short Gross P/L = (Entry − Exit) × Quantity
Net P/L = Gross P/L − Fees

Example

Long 100 units, entry $50, exit $54, $5 in fees → gross P/L $400, net P/L $395, 7.9% return on a $5,000 base.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Confusing gross and net P/L — fees matter, especially on small trades.
  • Mislabeling shorts. Profit on a short is entry − exit, not the other way around.
  • Comparing P/L across very different position sizes without normalizing.

Fees, commissions, slippage, and spreads chip away at the gross result.

Can this handle fractional shares?add

Yes — quantity can be any positive number, including decimals.

Is this connected to my broker?add

No. The tool is fully client-side and does not connect to any broker or exchange.

Do I need an account?add
